Brown Bag Gift Basket

I was excited to be asked by CutCardstock to create with their fabulous Brown Bag Collection of papers.  I love the soft muted colors of the handtinted paper, it really has a vintage feel to it.  So I decided to make a Gift Basket.

Using the largest die from Cheery Lynn Designs Scallop Coved Rectangle Stackers, I embossed then die cut 4 pieces from Brown Bag Kraft 65# Cover card stock as well as 2 panels from lightweight chipboard.  This die measures a whopping 7.25" x 5.625". a perfect size for a basket.

Using a spray adhesive, I sandwiched the chipboard between the Kraft panels.  Here is a tip: to get a good seal, run a brayer over the card stock after you glue it down.  It will get all the air out and create a nice tight sandwich.
Next using my Cheery Lynn Designs Scallop and plain Oval Stackers, I created a frame using Brown Bag Mushroom 70# Text weight paper.  I used a piece of two-sided sticky tape between the dies, centering the oval inside the scallop, then embossing and die cutting them both at the same time.

Again using the Mushroom paper, I die cut a Cheery Lynn Designs Lattice panel, trimming and glueing it to the back of the oval frame in the previous step. Behind the lattice, I added a piece of Curious Metallic Poison Ivory card stock, (first adding some texture with my Cheery Lynn Designs Stitching plate.)  I added the same texture to both the front and back panel of my basket.

I cut two pieces of Kraft card stock 4.25" x 9.375", scoring at 3.25 and 4.75 inches and down both sides at .75".  Using Red Liner tape for a good hold, I created the inside of the basket.  As I was putting it together, I realized it worked better by trimming off the long tabs on one of the bottom pieces; it nested inside the other nicely.

So here is my basic basket, now it is time to decorate it.  Using my Nellie Snellen flower punches and the handtinted  Blueberry, Cranberry, Eggplant and Olive Brown Bag papers, I created some fabulous flowers, adding a few gems for the centers.  I punched a few flourishes out of the Olive paper as well.   I also created handles using Cranberry and Kraft Brown Bag paper, again adding stitching texture.  I used some brads to adhere them to the basket adding Cranberry and Blueberry panels to the sides and bottom of the basket for decoration and added strength.  And here is the finished basket........

It is very roomy, 2.5 x 6.75 x 5.5 inches deep.  I think it is a fabulous gift basket and a wonderful project for this great paper.  And if you want to try the paper, they now have a Brown Bag Assortment pack, 5 sheets of each of the papers. And even better, during the month of March, all Brown Bag products are 10% off.  I hope you have enjoyed my little tutorial and that I have inspired you to try this fabulous paper and create a project of your own.   Sandy Hulsart, Creative Moments with Sandy
