Square Envelopes from CutCardStock
Hi everyone!  Hope your summer's going well -- it's scorchin' hot here in San Diego.  I've got several birthdays to celebrate in August, and Cut Card Stock has their square envelopes on sale (which I *adore*), so I thought I'd share one of the square fun-fold cards I made for a young lady getting ready to blow out some candles this month!

I began with some really cool denim paper from Cut Card Stock called So Jeans.  Yep, it looks just like a pair of jeans.  Want to know what's even cooler than finding awesome cardstock to work with?  Finding that cardstock at closeout prices!!  Since I had a 5.5" square envelope, I began my fun-fold card by trimming the cardstock to 10.5" x 5.25", rounded the corners on one end, scored it at 5.25" (half way), then folded the left side in half again and pressed the crease with a bone folder.  So now you have a "mountain" on the left side of your card base:
I chose three pieces of patterned paper from Amy Tangerine's "Sketchbook" 6 x 6 paper pad and trimmed two pieces to 5" x 2.5" and the larger piece to 5" x 5" and rounded two corners to mimic the card base:

Now to add a little stamped fun to the party!  I loved the cool cameras on one of the patterned papers, so I took out my Lawn Fawn "Say Cheese" stamp set and stamped a polaroid-like image onto Neenah Classic Crest cardstock in Solar White.  Ah, that crisp, clean stamped image!  I then used my craft knife and a ruler to cut out the "photo portion" of the image so that I could adhere my own fun photo behind it:

I wanted to add a birthday cake image, so I borrowed one from a Google search.  Are those malt balls around the edge?!  Mmm....  I "smudged" the polaroid-like image with a sponge and tiny bit of pink ink, then stamped "let's celebrate" from another Lawn Fawn stamp set -- finished it off with a fabric brad also from Amy Tangerine's line:

Now I needed a nice POP of color, so I chose another hot pink patterned paper from the Sketchbook pad and stamped the sentiment "Picture Perfect", then trimmed it out and notched one end to give it some groovy pennant style.  I popped this up on the top fold section (above the tiny camera print paper) and trimmed a similar width of this paper for the center fold section.

On the final and largest section I wrapped a bit of pink polka dotted ribbon around the lower section of green polka dotted patterned paper, adhered it to the base, then jauntily plonked the finished photo in the center.  When the card is folded up you can't see that the cake is a birthday cake...ssshhh, it's a surprise!
What to do with that scrap of gorgeous hot pink paper?!  Line the envelope, of course!  That was very easy...simply lay the flap of the envelope onto the back side of the patterned paper, trace and cut.  You can trim down the portion that will fit inside the envelope.  Adhere the patterned paper to the inside of the flap, fold and crease -- voila!
Celebrate a Birthday with a handmade card!
Happy Birthday Amy!
