Fall Floral Home Decor

Hi all... Wanted to share a craft idea that has been brewing since my last design cycle. I created some hanging pomanders back in July and wanted to utilize some of the smaller foam balls I had purchased during the same time.

The smaller foam balls require smaller florals obviously, so I found a tiny floral punch to accommodate my larger ones and went to work. This is a nice, long craft project (with a variety of techniques) that you can do while watching television and keeping warm on the couch. Perfect project for this crisp weather!

What you'll need:
  • Floral punches
  • Taffy Apple skewers (popular this time of year)
  • acrylic or gouache paint
  • small paintbrush
  • Cut card stock (various colored Flavors Gourmet sheets)
  • 1.5" Styrofoam balls
  • Small vase and ribbon (for display)
 Step 1:

Grab your taffy apple skewers and start painting the number that you'll need. A nice trick here is to paint it while holding the flat end and then after they've dried back a little bit, you can stick the points inside of a foam ball and then paint the ends that you were holding!

You can paint the balls to if you like, but I just seek to make sure they are completely covered. A painted ball will help to mask any cracks between your florals however...

The earlier pomander tutorial I did featured florals that were much larger, negating my smaller balls! I'm glad I kept them though because there was a smaller companion to this style of flower. So glad I found it. Get ready to start punching...

To adequately cover a 1.5" ball, you'll need 23-25 florals. Play around with the colors. I chose centers that I thought would contrast nicely with the outer floral color. In all, there were 150 flowers punched. Take breaks in between, as it can be hard on your hands!
Start affixing your florals to the ball with glue dots. Neater than glue and also you won't have to wait for each one to dry. Fluff them out and make sure you butt these up next to each other nicely so that the foam underneath does not show!
Voila! Pretty little vase with ribbon instantly makes these florals festive and they'll LAST. I'm going to be sure to put these up so that they can be trotted out again next year.

Thanks guys for making Cut Card Stock's blog a part of your day and have great weeks!
