St. Patrick's Day Washi Tape Banner

Do you have tons of those brightly colored rolls of washi tape lying around just waiting for a project?  (I know I do!)  Here's a way to use up some of that stash by creating pretty plaid panels for a fun and easy St. Patrick's Day banner.

Start by trimming Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock (110 lb) to 4.25" x 5.5" for each pennant you wish to create for your banner (I'm using seven panels).  Pick out four or five washi tapes in different colors and widths (I chose a few different greens, gold, and a golden yellow) and criss-cross them over the panel to form a plaid pattern as shown above.

Trim off the excess washi tape from the edges and either use a pair of scissors or a die to cut the panels into pennant shapes.  An added benefit of die-cutting the pennants is that the die-cutting machine will press the tape into the cardstock for an even firmer hold.

Next, die-cut a slightly larger mat layer for each pennant from Classic Linen Solar White Cardstock.  This heavyweight cardstock adds a sturdy base to the banner flags as well as some beautiful texture.  If you are cutting by hand, simply trim the Classic Linen cardstock a half-inch wider and longer than your plaid panel before adding a fishtail end.

Die-cut or punch seven shamrocks from Curious Metallic Botanic Cardstock.  Score two of the shamrocks from the center out to the tip of each leaf and bend the leaves as shown to add dimension (the other five will remain flat).

Die-cut or punch letters from Gold Bright Foil Cardstock to spell the word "lucky".

To assemble each pennant, layer a plaid washi panel on top of a Classic Linen panel with foam adhesive.  For the pennants on both ends of the banner, use foam adhesive to adhere the dimensional shamrocks, while adhering a flat shamrock and a gold foil letter to the remaining pennants.  These foam tabs are the perfect size for popping up skinny letters like the ones I'm using here!

Punch a small hole in the top corners of each pennant and thread baker's twine or ribbon through each until you've assembled a complete banner.

You can easily change the colors used here to make a pretty springtime banner as well...just grab those pastel washi tapes to make your plaid panels and spell out "spring" or "bloom" instead!
