Using Up Scraps to Make Fast and Easy Card Sets

Do you keep your paper trimmings when you make projects? A lot of crafters and makers do, and I'm sure you will too after I show you a fast and easy set of cards I made today.

With the warm weather in full swing and the kids out of school here in Texas, I'm back into my comfort zone of bright colors and clean textures. There was a bunch of bits and pieces left on my desk from experiments earlier this week, so I used those along with white cardstock to put together some everyday cards for spreading’ a little love :)

You will need:

• Pop Tone Cardstock in Blue Raspberry, Razzleberry, Black Licorice, Sweet Tooth, and Banana Split
• Basis 110lb Cardstock in White
• Love Stamp and Die Set from Simon Says Stamp
• Your favorite embossing folders (I used “Oriental Half Circle" by Kaisercraft
• White Embossing Powder
• Versamark Watermark Ink
• Heat Tool
• Anti-Static Pouch
• Tombow Mono Multi Glue
• Score-Tape
• Foam Squares
• Adhesive gems
• Paper Trimmer

To start, make some A2 (5.5 x 4.25-inch) card bases out of the Basis 110lb cardstock. Then, cut an A2 rectangle out of each of the colors: Blue Raspberry, Razzleberry, and Banana Split. Trim three 5.25 x 4-inch from the Sweet Tooth cardstock and run them through your die cut machine with your favorite embossing folder. Set all that aside and we will put together the sentiments.

The main embellishment is pretty straightforward - die cut it three times from a scrap of your black paper, then die cut it once from each color (except white) to match your cards. Stack and glue them with the colored word on top of a black backing.

Next, we need to stamp and emboss the rest of the sentiment. Since we are embossing white powder on black paper, you really wanna rub the area you’re going to emboss with an anti-static tool (or cornstarch in a small fabric pouch). You don’t want any stray grains left on your black cardstock because they will stand out like crazy. The anti-static treatment helps the embossing powder to only stick to where the ink is.

Prep a scrap of Black Licorice cardstock with your anti-static tool of choice, then use a ruler or a stamping alignment tool to stamp your sentiment along the edge, allowing enough space to trim the sentiment out on a strip that’s about 0.25” wide.

Now, to build! We can start with the Blue Raspberry since the cards are all created the same way, and I like turquoise.

Adhere your sentiment strip 1.5” from the bottom of one of the embossed panels. Glue works best here because of the ridges. Then, mat the embossed piece with the colored cardstock.

Flip over your “Love" die cuts and add a few foam squares to pop them up from the card.

Position them just above the sentiment strip and press them into place. Be sure to match the color of the die cut to the cardstock color you used to mat the embossed piece. Or mix and match colors if you like! Don't forget to add a little bling for balance and interest. Then, adhere the finished card front to your card base with Score-Tape.
