Be Strong

Inspiration (MFT's Sketch #58 & Julie Dinn)
Today my card uses the themes often associated with breast cancer awareness (pink and living strong), along with an anonymous quote that I think hits home with those fighting and surviving breast cancer.

The patterned paper is by My Mind's Eye and I love the colors and images because they're both sophisticated and whimsical, and the pinks vary widely.  I thought it was perfect for my project.

To help accentuate the pinks I set them onto "Smoked Sea Salt" Flavours Gourmet card stock, which is a rich, heavy paper that supports the layers used in this card.  I have the sample pack, which allows me to "taste" all the Flavours!

I want to show you how I created the patterned ribbon to coordinate with the first layer on the card and its damask printed paper.  Using a cling stamp set and gray ink from Stampin' Up!, and some white crinkle ribbon from May Arts, I placed these onto a thick phone book to ensure I got a surface that would "give" a little and provide a fully stamped image on the ribbon.

The white ribbon is light enough to take the ink without it bleeding, but you are able to see the stamped pattern on the opposite side as well, which is helpful later when tying the bow.  It doesn't take long for the ink to dry either.

To get a nice, fluffy bow I leave a little ribbon for a "tail" and then loosely wrap it around my fingers as shown.
I then use the ends to tie a knot around the center of the loops creating a bow.  Fluff out the loops and then, for a little bling, I used a Glue Dot and adhered a small pink button to the knot.  Each patterned paper rectangle was mounted onto the light gray Flavours Gourment card stock.  Try out some of these tasty card stock flavors, you like 'em!
