Up, Up and Away

Flying high...

Spring is in the air!  I created a simple card as my ode to a Sunday afternoon, complete with hot air balloons.  We are fortunate to see many hot air balloons flying above Del Mar and La Jolla, taking lucky tourists on rides above beautiful San Diego.

I used the exclusive stamp set, created just for Paper Made Bakery by Sweet Stamp Shop, in PMB's Sunday Afternoon, kit for March.  The stamp set is called "Old Fashioned Afternoon" and these two hot air balloons are just part of the awesome stamps included.

This is a simple card with only a few pieces involved, but I loved the (almost) monochromatic feel to it, with just the *pops* of additional color coming from the two balloons.  The patterned paper is from My Mind's Eye and wasn't from the kit.  I love how the two balloons (one smaller than the other) help give perspective, making one look closer and one farther away.
Just a few simple pieces
Buttons as baskets
Notice how I used buttons for the balloon baskets?  These were included in the Sunday Afternoon kit, as well as the black jute twine, which "holds" the button baskets onto the balloons.  I simply threaded the twine through the buttonholes and then used a mini glue dot to attach them to the backside of each paper pieced hot air balloon.  I popped the balloons up using 3D glue dots.

I also learned a great tip on making "perfect" pennant notches for banners by reading Lisa Arana's post at Paper Made Bakery.  My square punch was actually a square "postage stamp" punch, so it gave little prickly edges to my notch!  I thought it looked unique...
Just a quick and simple card that will work great for either a masculine or feminine recipient.  The very pretty orange card stock I used for the card base is a gorgeous Curious Metallic called Mandarin.  This thick, luxurious card stock is on sale in March!
