Parades are Fun

Happy {day after} Independence Day!  Hope you enjoyed the festivities -- BBQs, parades, fireworks.  Even though our red, white and blue holiday has passed, it's a patriotic month and we can celebrate throughout July!  So, in keeping with the red, white and blue theme here at CutCardStock.com, my card today gives a nod to a childhood parade -- a birthday parade, to be exact!

My mom's birthday is less than two weeks away and we'll be on vacation together when I give this card to her.  I love looking through old scrapbooks and seeing those funny old greeting cards given gajillions of years ago, and when I saw this image on a sheet in a 12 x 12 patterned paper pad I'd picked up a while back, I knew I wanted to turn it into a birthday card.
Since the image is pretty big, I created a card that will fit into a standard #10 envelope, which is a little smaller than 9.5" x 4".  I used Neenah Classic Crest in Solar White for the base and distressed the edges with Tea Dye Distress Ink and a sponge dauber to give the card a vintage feel.  Next I added a layer of Stardream Metallic card stock in Sapphire and then mounted the little girl image (in the finished card you'll notice that I scraped the edges to give it a more worn look.)
I love to reuse products I find in my everyday life, so I punched a little butterfly out of a thin cork coffee cup cuff from a local cupcake shop (yes, they're yummy!)  I threaded the authentic red and white baker's twine through the butterfly and added a yellow button for oomph!

Three tiny red, white and blue buttons at the top finish off this old fashioned birthday card.

You just never know what you'll be able to use from your crafty stash -- happy scrapping!

  1. Love this card. That little girl looks just like me - about a million years ago.
