Cher Bebe!

Cher Bebe!

It always brings a smile to my face when one of my former brides asks me to create her baby's birth announcements.  It not only allows me to keep in touch with the couple as their family expands but also allows me to create a special keepsake for their bundle of joy.   I generally try to keep the announcements simple with just the lettering in a nice calligraphy or block print and leave an area blank for a photo to be affixed.  However, I experimented a bit with this latest announcement and wanted to share with you how it was done.

My client asked for a small, hand-drawn sailboat to go at the top of the announcement.  I letterpressed the sailboat and text in a slate blue on Cut Card Stock's Crane Lettra 110 lb paper, pearl white.  Matching envelopes were letterpressed with the return address.

To add a little pop to the announcement, I decided to watercolor the boat in pale yellow and watercolor some pale blue, yellow and grey stripes to help offset the photo.  I used a Japanese  watercolor paint set from Cut Card Stock called Gansai Tambi.  They were wonderful to work with and even have some with metallic pigments in some of the colors which was an added surprise!

Once the announcements were painted, the photo was affixed using double-stick tape.  Cut Card Stock has one called Score Tape.  It comes in 27 yard rolls and is very easy to work with.

Below are a few images of announcements I've done for other baby clients.
In cajun country Louisiana, we say
"Cher Bebe!" (pronounced "sha bay bay", means darling baby)

P.S. please pray for south Louisiana as we have experienced horrific flooding in our area.
