Faux Inlaid Die Cutting

Hello, again! Today I’m going to share a card with you that I made using a technique that I’m going to call “faux inlaid die cutting” because instead of using a die I'm going to be using a punch. This is a fun way to utilize those supplies that you may not often use.




To begin, I cut a green panel from the Core'dinations Bountiful Harvest paper pack at 3.75” x 5”. I used an embossing folder to get a beautiful foliage impression on it.

Next, I used a punch to cut out three leaf shapes. Using a tiny bit of adhesive I placed them along the bottom of the green panel. Using the leaves as a guide I turned my punch upside down so that I knew I was punching exactly where I wanted to.

After I removed the punched leaves my panel looked like so.




I then cut a sheet of Martha Stewart cardstock in Camomile down to 4”x 5.25”.

After that, I adhered my green panel to the yellow panel. I think this looks really awesome and would make a great card as is.

I punched a few more leaves from some glitter paper that I had in my stash.

Then, I began laying them inside the punched spaces.

I tied a bit of twine around my base, added some dimensional droplets, and adhered the card front to an A2 sized base I made from 130# Brown Bag Card Stock in Kraft.

Then, using Gold Glitter Paper, I die cut a simple sentiment. I love this glitter paper because it doesn't shed at all.

Finally, I adhered the sentiment to the card.

There you have it. An easy way to achieve an inlaid die cut card without using dies. I hope that this will inspire you to look at your punches and see what you can make!
