Trifold Invitation

Now, I've never actually hosted a cocktail party, but I do want to invite a couple neighbors over before the summer gets away from me.  I have a fantastic Cosmo Cricket "Social Club" crafting kit whose retro theme and colors coordinate spectacularly with Cut Cardstock's Olive Curious Metallic 111# cardstock.  It just seems like Kismet to put them all together!


I've always wanted to try a trifold shutter card, so I found a good video and tutorial on YouTube and watched it a couple times to make sure I understood.  It's really a fun and simple card, so I thought I'd share it with you.  I've seen these cards made in a couple sizes, but I want to stick with the smaller version that fits into an A2 envelope.

Score, Cut & Fold

Begin by cutting your cardstock to 5.5" x 10.5".  Score at 1.75", 3.5", 7" and 8.75".  Now use your paper cutter to cut a slit 1.5" from the top beginning at the first score line and ending at the last score line.  Turn the cardstock over and do the same for the other side.


Fold at the score lines for nice creases, but know that you're going to "peak" and "valley" some of these folds.  The first "peak" is made by pulling the center band up at the second score line and keeping the top and bottom bands in a "valley" fold.  Now do the opposite for the other end; "peak" the top and bottom bands at the last score line and "valley" the center band.  Fold your card and give those new creases a good pressing!


Now it's time to add some color, text and embellishments to make it POP!  I used lots of the "Social Club" crafting kit, including the cardstock stickers, journaling cards, borders and 12 x 12 patterned papers.  Buying the crafting kit from a line is a great way to get lots of coordinating product to use in a variety of projects.  The measurements for each patterned block in this card are provided HERE thanks to Marcy at Operation Write Home.

Add dimension & texture

For texture I "roughed up" the edges of the long panels by opening my scissors and scraping the edges with one of the blades.  I also added three olive (get it?) colored mini brads along the sides of each panel for more dimension.  There's foam tape under the two text panels and the edges of most are inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a sponge dauber.  Finally, just for fun, I used Glossy Accents on the two martini glasses for shine and dimension.
