Brown Bag Valentine's Day Card & Envelope

Even if you haven't packed up all the ornaments or taken down the lights, it's not too early to start thinking of Valentine's Day!  If you're like me, it's a little challenging to make a sweet, loving Valentine's Day card that still has a masculine look.  I've found the Brown Bag Kraft cardstock to be the perfect solution to this problem, and right now, all the Brown Bag envelopes are on sale.

I gathered my supplies.....

First, I cut an A2 card size piece of the Flavours Gourmet Chili Arbol for the base of my card.  I layered a slighly smaller piece of Basis Black cardstock.  I cut an even smaller piece of Kraft to emboss and nest on top of the black layer.

I used the Tim Holtz embossing folder to create the bark texture and give my card that masculine look I was going for.  The Brown Bag Kraft takes these impressions so well -- the bark is so textured!  I also cut a heart with a Spellbinders heart die from a scrap of the Chili Arbol cardstock.  (Cut two while you're at it if you want to make the matching envelope like I did.)

Before I adhered my "bark" layer, I added a little rustic red touch by smudging a little Barn Door Distress Ink around the edges.

I assembled my card and then added the heart.  For a little extra touch, I used two pieces of Washi Tape to pull out some of that black from my mat layer.  Just repeat the taped heart piece on the front of an A2 Brown Bag envelope and you're all set for Valentine's Day!
