I don't know about you, but after awhile I have realised there are times when I want to make a box and I just don't have the size or style I like with die cuts. This has happened to me enough that I decided it was high time to make my own! Now, please bear with me because technically speaking this is the first (public) homemade boxes I have ever made. Let me show you what I did:
I decided how long and tall I wanted my box and then using my T-Ruler I drew out the shape. I made some little tabs on the ends of the box to help attach my handle strip (which is the long rectangle at the bottom)
Here in Singapore they have these cute fabric baskets that they give out during Chinese New Year that are long enough to fit two oranges (for good luck!) I wanted that same long shape and style so I could fit specific candy in it. But I wanted it out of paper, not fabric! I chose to use the Deckled Edge white paper which has a lovely texture that adds to the over all look.
Next I stamped my small floral images across my template. When you are background stamping you want to be sure to stamp OFF the image. This will help you avoid weird white spaces. I started with my leaf images because they were the biggest and you can't squeeze them in after. Trust me! :) You can see here the finished stamping. I chose to not use the purple flower on the handle strip because it was a little big to fit in. If you download the template below, be sure to trim it out FIRST and then flip it over before stamping. That way you can hide the print lines on the inside of the box. Also don't forget to score the folding lines. It goes together much easier that way!
Next I trimmed it out and erased the pencil marks (See statement above about the template lines). Then I glued it together. The glue lines in the store work great for this because they fit perfectly on the little tabs that go together. I also die cut a tag and hand wrote part of my sentiment using the Zig Dual Tip Calligraphy pen. I wanted it to have a contrasting font to the HAPPY sentiment. And let me just say, this pen is so fun! I really loved using it and want to keep trying on perfecting my writing skills. Maybe even a calligraphy class?? FUN!
I die cut my HAPPY sentiment 4 times and glued them together to add some dimension and I stamped and trimmed out a little butterfly for an added touch.
I hole punched the tag and used some ribbon from the store to tie it all on.
And that's it! I used some straw grass for the bottom of the box and filled it with some Recee's Peanut Butter Eggs, which are my favorite! They come to Singapore only once a year and I've been hoarding them... don't tell my children!
Now, because I love you I have the PDF file to share for this box template! YAY! Thanks to my husband and some serious studying, I figured out how to make it. Please be patient with it because it's my first try and there may be some funky glitches. But hopefully you can have some fun making up your own treat boxes to share this spring!
Thanks for stopping in today. I had a great time with my project and I love coming to share with all of you. Until next time, just keep on crafting!
