Chinese New Year Home Decor

Hello there! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!! (That means Happy New Year in Chinese) It's Kristie Larsen here and all the way over here in Singapore the festivities for Chinese New Year are going strong. One of the things I love about Chinese New Year is there are so many decorations, great food and fun events for almost a month during the Lunar New Year. So that means, I got to craft up some home decor to be apart of the fun! As I walk along the streets I see trees all decorated with red and gold, and oranges which are all good luck this time of year. So I pulled out some Pop-Tones paper and got to crafting. Let me show you what I made...

I started with making some miniature oranges. Here for the New Year you give oranges as gifts. But you have to make sure you give them in sets of two. Even numbers are good luck!
I started by die cutting 8 small circles per orange and scored them down them middle.

I then glued one half of a circle to a half of a different circle and kept going until they were stacked next to each other like a fan. I glued in a little stem/leave set before opening the fan and connecting the front and back half circle to each other to create a full orange.

I also glued in a tassle hanger before adhering.

You can see the completed orange. Isn't it cute! The stems were made from a die cut that usually makes little paper bows and then folded in half! I was so excited to give it another use.

I die cut some mini vellum banners and stamped my Chinese saying on it with Stazon ink. This keeps it from smudging off the vellum. There are two sayings here.  One is "Happy New Year" and the other is "Congratulations and Wishing you Prosperity."  I glued the scroll along the top onto a toothpick and added some red thread to create a hanger. I trimmed off the pointed parts of each toothpick as well. I love these little scrolls!

Next I die cut some red packets. Traditionally red packets are filled with money and passed out to friends and family members. I die cut some red Pop-Tone for the packet and Stardream Metallic gold paper for the gold background square and then coloured some good luck cats, cherry blossoms and lanterns on Classic Crest Solar White before assembling them.

At the back I just added some gold twine and looped it through to make it a hanger as well.

Here is a close up of the red packet, which I think turned out so cute! I used foam tape for most of the elements and added some string around for the hanging lantern.

Here you can see all three up close on the tree at my front door.

And here is my front porch! All decorated for the holiday and these are small and easy to store again for next year. Now my home is apart of the neighbourhood festivities and Good Luck and Prosperity will be ours this Year of the Monkey!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you found some fun inspiration here for your own home today. Decorate it up!! And have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
xoxo
