Father's Day Gift Tag

So, the minutes are ticking down on Father's Day and you still need a quick and easy gift idea...no problem! It's Annie, and I'm back today with a simple handmade gift tag project for those of us with dads who love snacking.

Let's start with the materials.  I'm using Basis Cardstocks in Navy, Natural, and Green because they are nice, sturdy 80 pound cardstocks that come in beautiful vibrant colors.  I love this color combination for masculine projects...it kinda has a prep-school or mallard vibe to it. :)

Start by cutting your tag layers.  I used nesting pennant dies to cut mine, but you can easily cut these shapes by hand.  For the navy base layer, trim your cardstock to 2.5" x 8.5", score and fold the strip in the center at 4.25", and cut a simple fishtail shape at the bottom. Then, create 2" x 3.5" pennants out of green and natural cardstock, and a 1.5" x 3" pennant out of natural cardstock.

For a little added texture, I embossed the navy base layer with a fun 3D woven pattern that reminded me of a fishing creel.  Basis cardstocks take heavy embossing like this really well...no cracks in sight!

Stamp squirrel and acorn images onto Classic Crest Solar White cardstock and color them with alcohol markers (I used Copic markers here).  Then use the coordinating dies or fussy-cut the images.

Stamp the sentiment onto the bottom of the smallest natural pennant with pigment ink, add clear embossing powder, and melt it with your heat tool.

Layer the small natural pennant onto the large green pennant with tape runner, and then glue the entire piece down to the front of the navy tag base with Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose liquid glue (since the tag is deeply embossed, the liquid glue ensures a tight hold).  Then, adhere your colored die-cuts with foam adhesive.

Glue the larger natural pennant to the inside of the tag with liquid glue.  This gives you a large space to write a sweet message for dad!

Punch or poke a hole in the upper left corner of the tag to pass a short length of jute through.  Wrap the jute around the neck of your recipient's favorite jar of nuts and tie a small bow to attach.

I hope you enjoyed this simple Father's Day gift idea and thanks so much for stopping by today!  Be sure to visit the CutCardStock store to purchase any of the supplies featured today and remember that Basis Cardstocks are on sale this month!
