Birthday card for the New Year!

Happy New Year! I always love the clean slate the fresh new year has to offer. I'm not one for a lot of resolutions, but one thing I've been wanting to do for a while is get a bit better at sending cards to friends and family. I mean, I'm a card maker, so it seems like I should actually be mailing these things out, right? So for starters, I'm building my stash of birthday cards... those seem like the easiest to send out and don't usually call for large amounts at one time. I may be able to handle this little goal :)

To make it even easier on myself, I'm using A7 flat cards that are a great 5 x 7" surface to craft on, some space on the back for a hand written message and fit beautifully in an A7 envelope. Super easy!

A7 envelopes are on sale this month, so this is a great time to stock up....

I started this one with Savoy 100% cotton. The distress inks work well on this cardstock and I love the look of the blended inks.

I added some blending to the front of the envelope and a touch on the flap, just to tie everything together!

I used my Misti stamping tool to help align the sentiment onto the card.  I made sure I heat set the distress ink first (it stays wet for a while and can cause embossing powder to stick in places you don't want it to) and applied a generous amount of powder from my embossing buddy.  I like to use the Misti because I can stamp multiple times to make sure I get a nice impression.

I applied some white embossing powder and heat set that, as well as a little balloon image onto the front of the envelope.  I used the Signo white gel pen to draw lines and create a frame around the sentiment.

I think this makes a fun birthday card for just about anyone, so it's a great one to mass produce and keep in my stash...
