Black Glitter and Watercolor Sea Salt Mother's Day Card

I wanted to keep this tutorial as simple as possible so that anyone at home could bring it all together using just a few techniques, while still making a colorful and textural impact - all in a tiny little card for Mother's Day!

The POW! Black Glitter Paper is a wonderful product to work with. I trimmed it to fit my card front which was just a bit smaller than an A2 size card, made from Esse Pearlized card stock. I wanted to be sure everything was flush to the edges and even inked the edges of the paper to be sure there was no white peeking from behind.

I then focused on the watercolor piece. I first trimmed it so that there would be a near-half inch border of glitter paper surrounding it. Then, fixing it to a cutting board with glue dots to prevent warping, I began painting. I used feminine colors like purples and pinks with touches of blue, letting the water and pigment do its thing.

When I was happy with the watercolor wash, I decided to add some quick texture by throwing a handful of sea salt onto the paper. It's my favorite way to add an organic element to whatever work of art I'm playing with, as it produces a very interesting reaction.

I then practiced my sentiment on a scrap of the black glitter paper to make sure I liked what I was doing - and to be sure the ink I was using would work well on the paper.

Once I was happy, I worked on writing "Mom" complete with flourishes inside a 2-inch circle that I die-cut using my Silhouette Portrait.

Assembly was quite easy. I used Tombow Mono Aqua Glue for the backing glitter paper, an ATG gun to adhere the watercolor paper, and more Tombow Mono to attach the circle sentiment.

I then finished it all off with a hand-drawn faux stitched border, using a Sharpie pen.
