Holiday Place Cards

Happy Holiday Season! It's certainly looking like Christmas here in Chicagoland, as we received a huge snowstorm on Sunday night, blanketing the land in white, and even canceling school! Hopefully, it will stick around long enough for us to have a white Christmas.

I'm super excited to be hosting Christmas dinner this year, so I decided to get a head start and make my place cards. I love the little details that make get-togethers extra special!

For the cards, I used the Basis Card Stock cut to size, but you can purchase them pre-cut which is super handy: Basic Place Cards in White. Additional materials used for this project are Gansai Tambi Watercolor Set, Zig Waterbrush, Uniball Sign Pen in Gold, and a good old-fashioned pencil!

When just starting out with hand lettering, I find it much easier to start with a pencil sketch, rather than going straight to ink. This provides the opportunity to edit your writing if it's off center, or doesn't fit in the space properly. 

If you sketch lightly, you can ink over the pencil lines, and erase after! Be sure to let the ink dry completely before erasing the pencil lines.

After the pencil lines were erased, I went back in and added the thick lines in my faux calligraphy technique. To make the cards extra festive, I used watercolor to add foliage details to the card.
