Hand Lettered Valentine

Love is in the air! Valentine's Day will be here before we know it, so I decided to play around today with a card design.

I'm actually teaching a brush lettering class in early February where we will make a card, so I wanted to come up with something that was relatively simple for anyone to make!

I started with a smooth A7 folded card, in Cougar White 80# stock. I prefer to sketch out my designs beforehand, so I marked the center lines both horizontally and vertically, then drew in the lettering.

After the sketch was complete, I went back in and lightly erased the lines so that they were just barely visible.

For my lettering tools today, I chose to use my favorite Micron Pen .05, but I decided to try something new and different for the red ink! So, I tested out the Zig Clean Color Brush Markers

Wow! This was a nice change of pace from the usual markers I use. It was almost like painting the ink onto the page - the brush was extremely flexible and fine. I could touch up the tiniest details with the tip. Super fun! I could also get some fun shapes and textures with the details I added into the card.

After the lettering was inked in, I went back in again with the eraser to remove any remaining pencil lines. Then I added in the fun details - hearts, stippling, and of course, dots!

And there you have it! A fun card to send to a loved one... Now I just have to decide who will be the lucky recipient! ;)

XOXO, Erin @eringermandesign

  1. Love, love, love this!! Wish I could take your class. Learning Brush Lettering is on my bucket list for this year. Even got a book for Christmas on the topic. Now to crack it open. I'll be sure to refer back to this post frequently!!
