Running low on time and need some quick holiday décor? These 3D Easter egg ornaments are super simple to make, require minimal supplies, and can even be a fun project for kids!
Start by choosing several colors of pastel cardstock and some coordinating patterned paper for each (I am loving all things plaid right now!). My favorites are a mix of Curious Metallic and Stardream Metallic cardstocks (Rose Quartz, Lime, Lagoon, Amethyst, and Poison Ivory from left to right) because they're thick and shimmery, making for some beautiful and sturdy ornaments.
Cut equal numbers of small egg shapes out of each cardstock and the matching patterned paper. Here I've used my Silhouette to cut four eggs out of each cardstock and four eggs out of its matching plaid paper, but you can cut the eggs with a manual die-cutting machine or by hand too. Cutting more shapes will yield a "fuller" egg, but you can even cut as few as two of each if desired.
Score each egg shape down the center and crease the fold to allow for easier assembly and more evenly-shaped ornaments. My eggs are about 2.25" wide, so I scored each at around 1.125".
Add liquid glue to one half of the folded cardstock egg and place a patterned paper egg on top. Then add glue to the other half of the patterned paper egg and put a cardstock egg on top of that. Repeat until you have glued and alternated each layer of the egg.
Before you glue the last two layers together, cut a short length of natural twine and tie a knot at one end. Slip the string between the layers and place the knot at the bottom of the egg before adhering the egg shut with liquid glue.
Hang your new ornaments on a springtime centerpiece or even place them along a length of string to create a banner for your mantel.
