Rainbow Inking on Curious Metallic

Are you ready for Spring? I sure am! I'm bringing sunshine and rainbows to your craft space today. Follow along for rainbow ink blending on Curious Metallic cardstock.

  

I'll be using Poison Ivory, White Silver, and Night Curious Metallic Cardstock for these projects. Did you know that most of the Curious Metallic line is 111 lb, but some colors are 92 lb or 89 lb.

Now I assumed the only difference was the thickness, but as I started working with these papers I realized the 111 lb cardstock has more surface texture and greater light reflection.

Poison Ivory and Cryogen White are 89 lb. I noticed these papers have a smoother surface and the metallic quality is more subtle. In person, it looks like it was coated with Wink of Stella. The video shows the ink techniques and shows off the shine well.

CARD 1
I secured a piece of A2 sized White Silver cardstock and the Altenew Molded Lines Stencil to the mat. Using a small blending brush I used one color in each bow in rainbow order.

Distress Inks - same for both cards
Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Dusty Concord.

I choose Distress Inks vs. Distress Oxides as they are more transparent and I didn't want to dull the metallic finish of the paper. If you've tried Oxides on metallic cardstock, please let me know in the comments, whether or not you could still see the sparkle through the ink.

I die cut 3 hello sentiments from Night cardstock, glued them together, and adhered them to the card. I stamped a sub-sentiment and adhered a die cut butterfly.

The White Silver has a blueish glow which I think represents the sky nicely.

CARD 2
This next technique uses the leftover ink on your stencil! I started with  an A2 sized piece of Poison Ivory and ink blended in rainbow order over Altenew Flowing Drops Stencil. I set that card panel aside for later use.

There was lots of yummy ink on top of the stencil, so I added a fine mist of water from 8-10 inches away, and placed another A2 size piece of Poison Ivory cardstock over the stencil. I walked my fingers over the cardstock to ensure the ink transferred to all areas.

I was totally not expecting this result and I love it!! The crisp outlines with ink splotches are so cool! So I grabbed another pice of cardstock that I had previously ink smooshed and dropped that on the stencil as well.

I added a die cut sentiment and stamped a sub-sentiment and called it done.
