Handmade punched flower tutorial

Today I want to share a fun way to add some 3D flowers without spending a lot of money - by making them yourself.

First, you should select a flower die-cut or punch with 5-6 petals.  For my red rose, I used three flowers.  (I used a Fiskars punch and an EK Success punch).   Next, select some light weight cardstock or text weight paper.  For these flowers, I used Pop Tones Red Hot cardstock, Pop Tones Orange Fizz cardstock, and Stardream Metallic Silver text weight paper.

First, punch the flowers.  As I stated, I cut three for this flower.  Then, cut the flowers as shown below:

Poptones cardstock from CutCardStock.com
First flower:  cut a slit between two petals towards the middle of the flower.  Second flower: cut out one petal completely (set aside).  Third flower: cut out two petals completely.  NOTE: If you choose a punch with more petals, you'll need to punch additional flowers to cut until you have one petal, two petals, three petals, four petals, five petals, etc...

Next, starting with the flower with all it's petals:  Adhere the two petals together that were divided by the slit.  (I used my Tombow Mono Adhesive for this, but you may choose a liquid or super strong dry adhesive if you prefer.)  Continue with the flowers, adhering the two petals seperated by the cuts until you have several pieces, as shown above.

Next, adhere the smallest piece into the second smallest piece using glue dots.  Some tips of the flower cones may need to be trimmed down to allow the flower to lay flatter.  Once all the flowers have been stacked, you can bend or fan the petals to suit your taste.  Sometimes, I like to ink disress the edges of the flower. Your flower will look like this photo when completed.

If desired, add a small gem or adhesive pearl to the center for some added flair.

For this card, I started with a Pop Tones Whipped Cream base, four flowers, some Kraft cardstock , then layered this with Flirty paper by Close to My Heart.  The sentiment is by Unity.  I tied some hemp around the top of the card, and adhered the flowers using glue dots.

As you can see, it's easy and fun to create handmade flowers on your own, and best of all, it's easy to make sure the flowers are exactly the color you need for your project!

Happy Stamping!
