Die Cut, Dry Embossing, and Gatefold Oh My!

Hi everyone, Carol from the Design Team here back with a coordinating birthday card and lined envelope idea to share with you.

This is my mom's birthday card....sssshhhhh don't tell her it's here OK? I won't give her the link until after she gets it. In case you can't tell, she loves purple. I mean seriously loves purple. So I make sure and use lot of purple in her birthday cards.

The star of this show is "Violette" by Curious Metallics. I used it to dry emboss the focals for the front of the card.

I started with a gatefold card I made from cream cardstock. trimmed to 10x7 and then scored the sides at 3 inches and 2 inches. This is what we call in the card making world an oops. I meant to do 2.5x2.5 and ooops. I decided it worked anyway.

I grabbed some purple damask scrapbook paper from my hoard stash and trimmed to 1.75 x 6.75 , 2.75x6.75 and 4.75x6.75. I adhered the smaller papers to the outside panels and the largest paper to the inside panel.

I used half a sheet of the Violette to make the focals for the front. Ran one piece through my Cuttlebug using a Flourished Frame embossing folder. Used the other piece to diecut a swirly flourish.

I cut the center of the embossed piece out and adhered a scrap of the printed paper behind it. Then trimmed the frame closely using scissors. You might recognize the 3-D iris sticker from my earlier card this month. My mom and the recipient of that card both love irises.

Other embellishments are glitter tape, paper flower, glitter self adhesive rhinestone. Using another scrap of the Violette, I embossed "Live Laugh Love" , my mom's favorite expression with gold embossing powder and adhered this on the inside of the card.

Since I try to use up my scraps, I attached a torn scrap of the patterned paper and some washi tape to this panel.

To finish up, I lined the inside of a purple Basis envelope. I used the envelope as a guide and traced the shape onto my leftover scrapbook paper. You want to trim this so it's slightly smaller than your envelope. Inserted into the envelope to position, folded the top down and then taped the paper inside.

and Voila le Violette!

Remember, sssshhhhh don't tell her !
