A Sympathy Card for Pet Parents

Do you have trouble making sympathy cards? Me too. I always want to color with bright colors and happy sentiments, but sometimes a sympathy card will end up being what's needed, so it's always good to have a few on hand.

It's likely that you will know someone who lost their pet recently. For some people, their furry companions are just as important as a family member (My dog is, for sure!), and it's always nice to let them know you're there for them when times get tough.

I think all sympathy cards need a touch of elegance. That's why I chose to use a sheet of Curious Metallic cardstock for my background on this project. This card is pretty quick and easy to make, and you can adjust the pattern to suit your needs by just switching out the stamp set you use.

For this card, you'll need:

To start, cut an A2 (5.5" x 4.25") card base from the White cardstock. Then, cut two 5.5" x 4.25" pieces of Ionized cardstock. Trim 1/8" from the top and left side of one piece, then trim 3/8" from the top and left side of the other piece (or use a die, I used a Stitched Rectangle by Simon Says Stamp).

Next, cut a 5.25" x 4" piece of Black cardstock, save the scraps and cut a 1/8" strip from them that's long enough to go across your card (about 4.5").

Set all those pieces aside and break out your ink.

To create the background, grab the smaller (or die cut) piece of Ionized cardstock and choose a small image from your stamp set. For my card, I used a paw print. Stamp the small image all over your panel, making sure they look evenly spaced. Ta daa! Custom patterned paper :)

On a piece of the White cardstock, align and stamp your sentiment. For my sentiment, I used a MISTI tool to make sure all the words and big paw print were spaced correctly since it was a three part stamping process.

Finally, die cut your sentiment out with an oval die. I used a 3" wide Stitched Oval from Simon Says Stamp.

To put it all together, layer the Black cardstock panel over the bigger of the two Ionized cardstock panels and secure with Glue Tape. Then, layer your patterned panel on top of the Black. Wrap the 1/8" strip of Black over your stack, positioning about 1.5" up from the bottom edge, and fold the ends behind and stick them down. Use some Foam Adhesive to attach your sentiment over the strip. Finally, adhere the whole thing to your card base.

All done!
