Folded Floral Thank You Note

Do you send thank you notes to others? I do. I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many thank you notes stockpiled in your stash. I even carry a few around with me in my planner, just in case. Everyone enjoys a handwritten thank you now and then, so why not up your game a little and make today’s fancy folded card for the next time you need to send a note of gratitude!

I am obsessed with the texture of Royal Sundance Felt cardstock, so that’s what I’m using for the card today. The front of the card is very plain, but the paper's texture really adds some fancy to all that white space.

To start, get you an 8 1/2 x 11-inch sheet of Royal Sundance Felt cardstock in Brilliant White and cut it lengthwise. You’ll end up with two 4 1/4 x 11-inch pieces. We are going to stick them together again later, but for now, score them across the center at the 5 1/2-inch mark.

Next, take one piece and flatten it out again. Position your tab die (Curved Package Tab, Memory Box) about two inches up from the bottom edge and tape it in place. I used the grid on my mat and some Post-It tape to get it to the right spot before I ran it through the Big Shot.

To find the right spot for the slot on the other cardstock piece, use the scrap from the tab. Align it along the folded edge (I know it seems upside down, but trust me, it works!). Make sure the slot die will cut in a place where the tab can tuck almost entirely into it, and align the stitched edge die (Stitched Basic Edges, My Favorite Things) about 2 1/2 inches above the folded edge, as shown.

Open the piece up, so it is flat again, remove the scrap and run it through your die cutting machine.  The two parts you end up with should look like this:

Time to do the stamping! Oh, as a sidenote, since this cardstock is textured you’ll want to use a stamping tool or stamp positioner in case you need to re-stamp any of your images for clarity.

On your tabbed piece, stamp your sentiment (I used ‘thanks,' from Thankful Heart, Simon Says Stamp) above the tab with black pigment ink, and heat emboss. Set that piece aside.

On the slotted piece, fold up the stitched edge and lightly pencil a line so you can tell what part of the flowers will be visible. You won't be able to see the pencil line if you use darker inks; if you use a lighter ink like a yellow, for instance, try to just eyeball it. You can't erase pencil once it's been covered with ink or paint.

Begin by stamping two images of the stamp set you’d like to use on masking paper. Cut them out and use them to mask and create a dimensional look for your design. The stamp set I used (My Best Friend, Clearly Besotted) has several layers that you can build up to create a more realistic images.

When I was stamping the floral design, I didn’t want it to be perfect since the paper I’m using isn’t perfectly smooth. Instead, I stamped the layers just a little off center from each other to add a bit of interest. Once you are happy with your design, add a little sparkle with a clear Wink of Stella brush pen.

Then, dot the flower centers with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss White. While that’s drying, fold up the stitched flap and stamp the rest of the sentiment. I curved my wording a bit as I was positioning it on the acrylic block so it would fit all comfy-like along the curve.

To finish this card off add some Scor-tape to the back of the rectangle piece with the floral design (this will be the inside of the card), align, and stick it onto the rectangle portion of the tabbed section. Make sure the “for always being there” slot folds up, and the “thank you” tab folds down to tuck in.
