A Holly Jolly Christmas + Die Embossing

Hello and welcome to Day 3 of our Holiday Countdown! Niki here and today I have a clean and simple card for you featuring die embossing and a little bit of no-line coloring.

I used a super thick piece of Savoy 236# Cotton cardstock cut to 5-1/4” x 4” to make the card front. You can use whatever cardstock you have on hand (Classic Crest 110# works great too), but the thicker, the better.

I used the die embossing plate and rubber mat combo that came with my Tonic Tangerine die cutting machine and a Mini Scalloped Rectangle die (My Favorite Things) to do the embossing.

To do the no-line coloring, I masked off around the inner rectangle and stamped the holly image (from Merry Christmas Wishes, Mama Elephant) all around the open area with a super light ink (Barely Beige, Simon Says Stamp).

Next, I used red and green Nuvo Watercolor Pencils to color in the holly. Don’t be afraid to color a bit darker along one side to add a bit of dimension. They will need it since the stamp lines will end up practically invisible on your finished card ;)

To blend out the watercolor pencil, paint over the hollies with a Wink of Stella brush pen in Clear. The water-based ink activates the pencil and smooths the color beautifully.

Peel up the masking paper (I used Post-It® tape) and stamp the sentiment with Versafine CLAIR in Nocturne. Heat emboss with Clear Embossing Powder.

To finish up the card, attach the card front to a 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” piece of Basis cardstock in Red, and adhere everything to an A2 card base.

Thank you so much for reading today! Be sure to drop by tomorrow to see the next project idea for your best handmade holiday yet!
