DIY Striped Background Encouragement Card

Hello, everyone! Samantha here with an idea for all my fellow paper hoarders. If you're not a paper hoarder already maybe this idea will turn you into one!

I have a tendency to hoard my paper scraps, particularly those from pretty or specialty paper. One of my favorite things to do with those scraps is to turn them into striped backgrounds for cards.

For this card you will need:

*Optional
  • small stamped sentiment strip

Cover a 5" x 4.25" piece of copy paper in adhesive. I ran mine through my Xyron machine.

Arrange your strips onto the copy paper, adhesive side up, until you've covered the whole thing. This reminds me a little of laying tile or hardwood flooring.

When you're all done, you'll have a wild looking striped panel like this. Don't worry. We're going to make it look better.

Flip it over like so and trim those wild ends right up to the edge of the copy paper (that's what I'm pointing to).

After trimming the excess away, use a basic nesting die to cut a 5.25" x 3.75" rectangle from the striped panel.

Use Silk Glitter Kings Crown Gold cardstock and Basis Black cardstock to die cut your sentiment, then adhere them together with the Silk Glitter Kings Crown Gold cardstock on top, slightly off center. This gives it a bordered look.

Attach your White Basis cardstock panel to your DCS Wild Blueberry Navy card base. Layer your striped panel onto that and add your die cut sentiment.

I also opted to add a small stamped sentiment strip.

To tie it all together add small embellishments. I used three white sequins.

That's all! Remember to save this tutorial to your favorite Pinterest board and be sure to tag @CutCardStock when you give this idea a try so that we can admire your work.

Until next time,
Samantha
