Black and White Modern Paper Weave Hanging

Black and white. There's something about that color combo that just goes together like peanut butter and jelly. So clean and sleek yet can be softened with a touch of wood. This home decor project 100% channels my inner Joanna Gaines and was so incredibly easy to make!

Supplies used:

The first step is creating the base piece, which is an 8.5in x 11in white Basis Cardstock with 10in-long slits spaced 0.5in apart. This means there's a 0.5in margin on top and bottom. You can do this with a ruler and a Xacto knife. I used my Silhouette CAMEO for efficiency and precision cutting.

Next, I cut 0.5in x 11in strips from black Basis Cardstock and weaved them through the base piece creating a fun pattern.

Once I was happy with the pattern, I used Tombow Mono Liquid Glue to secure the paper weave design. Keep in mind a small dab will go a long way!

Then, I trimmed off the excess black strips with scissors.

Now, we will make our own faux hanging frames! I've seen these everywhere on Amazon and Etsy but decided to DIY this part too because DIYing is fun and a whole lot cheaper this way. Note: my version will permanently glue the paper weave to the hanging frames which I'm totally okay with.

With a Xacto knife and ruler, I marked up the basswood piece and cut out four "frames" that measured 1.25in x 9in each. Starting with the bottom end of the paper weave, I glued the one frame strip under it with Tombow Mono Liquid Glue. Then I used my hot glue gun to secure the top frame strip.

Before repeating the same step for the top frame strips, I cut hemp cord to desired length and hot glued it to the back of the top frame strip. Lastly, glue/hot glue the top frame strips and voila! Instant home decor!

I absolutely love how it turned out and am dreaming about all the paper weaving patterns! You can vary the width of the cardstock strips or add other colors and create a whole slew of cool designs.

Are you ready to make yours? I'd love to know what you're going to make! Please share by leaving a comment below!
