Learning with Colorblock Alphabet Blocks

Ninety percent of the time I craft a card or gift for someone outside my immediate family, but I sure love crafting for/with my kids the other 10% of the time! And that is what I am sharing with y'all today...a fun and colorful craft project with an early childhood learning spin.

This project features three paper blocks cut from Basis White Cardstock using my Silhouette CAMEO and this easy-to-assemble 3D box cut file.

In Silhouette Studio, I resized the shape to fit an 8.5" x 11" sheet and added individual letter cutouts to each side of the cube. Once cut by my Silhouette CAMEO, I peeled off the newly cut cardstock from the mat. Then, I folded along each perforated line and glued it together using Tombow Mini Liquid Glue.

Next, I cut 1.75" square cardstock pieces from three vibrant colors: Pop-Tone in Razzleberry, Pop-Tone in Blue Raspberry, Astrobright in Solar Yellow. These colored pieces would go behind each letter cutout on the block and secured with Tombow glue.

By using the cutout as a stencil, I was able to determine the placement of each inner piece.

I love the contrast between the bright white and colored cardstock. It's a good reminder for me as a paper crafter that sometimes less is more. The simplicity of combining two colors can make a striking and beautiful appearance.
